[Cvsnt] Can't use ntserver protocol from server or client

Allow me to correct myself on one detail...the error reported by the WinCVS
client is *not* the same as reported by the cvs.exe on the server's command
line. The WinCVS 1.3.6.1 beta 6 error is this:

cvs checkout CVSROOT (in directory C:\)
cvs [checkout aborted]: unrecognized auth response from servername: cvs
[authserver aborted]: bad auth protocol start: BEGIN NTSERVER

But the server reports from the command line:

C:\>cvs -d :ntserver:servername:d:/cvs co CVSROOT
cvs [checkout aborted]: the :ntserver: access method is not supported by
this port of CVS

Please help if you can. More details are in my first message....
Thanks!

Subject: [Cvsnt] Can't use ntserver protocol from server or client

Hello. I just installed CVSWEBNT 1.93.2.2 on the same server where I was
running cvsnt 1.11.1.3 (Build 57a). The server is running W2K Server with
SP2 and IIS 5.0 in a domain. I can't find any info on the following error,
which I get from the command line on the server itself and from WinCVS 1.3
beta 6 running on another workstation:

C:\>cvs -d :ntserver:servername:d:/cvs co CVSROOT
cvs [checkout aborted]: the :ntserver: access method is not supported by
this port of CVS

This error started after I attempted to install CVSWEBNT. When I was ready
to test the URL, I ran into an error. Before troubleshooting CVSWEB, I
double-checked that CVSNT itself was still functional, and found that it was
not.

I did find some threads about a similar error related to pserver, but not
ntserver. I've reinstalled CVSNT initialized a new repository on the
server, and reinstalled WinCVS 1.3 beta 6 on my workstation with no change
in the error message. I've always referred to
http://www.devguy.com/fp/cfgmgmt/cvs/cvs_admin_nt.htm for instructions,
along with this mailing list.

The only way I can access the repository now, as a cvs client, is by running
cvs commands from the server using the option -d :local:d:\cvs. That works,
and I successfully modified a file under CVSROOT and checked it in. But why
does ntserver fail?

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks for your help,
Dave
