Looks like on your local machine it's pretty much the same, but using
:local: to a network drive is where the problem is (unless I picked up the
wrong point when skimming that previous message).  I believe :local: still
uses lock files etc. for concurrent access from multiple local instances,
but I'm no expert on local access.
