[cvsnt] assertion "key != NULL" failed (when updating workingcopy)

It looks like the file where the server crashes, doesn't have the
branch you want to merge (or the respective file in the repository is
damaged). What about a 'log' for that file?
But I'm not able to reproduce the behavior...
