File based locks for Win32 are *not* compatible with file based locks on 
Linux.

The naming format is different (includes the username, as you can't 
derive that from the file easily on Win32).

Also on the first checkin the cvsnt client will rewrite the RCS file 
with its own extensions, which will (probably) upset all the other 
clients - a prerequisite of using network shares - if they're used at 
all - is that all servers accessing the repository are the same version.

For multiplatform work a server is absolutely essential.
