The directory has been stripped for some reason.  Since the last change 
to that code was in 2005 it's probably just not kept pace with outside 
changes.  Surprised it got missed in testing though..

I've committed a fix but it probably won't see a release for a while 
(beyond special builds for customers) as the schedules for the next few 
months are full of things to do with evs.
