Of course I can (and will do it if desired) send the patches but I'm not a 
friend of autoconf & co. That means I have run ./configure at first and 
after that I have adapted config.h and lib/Makefile to force compiling of 
lib/getopt_long.c.

The right way is adding a check for getopt to the autoconf stuff...
