[Cvsnt] ntserver

1. You are getting the error message because you are using the
Admin/Login function in WinCvs1.2 even though you are using :ntserver:
With ntserver you don't need to log in at all, it is already done
when you logged into your NT¤ workstation. ntserver uses this login also
for the CVS work.

2. passwd file
With CVSNT version 1.11.x.x you need a passwd file which was not needed in
1.10.8. It must exist in the CVSROOT directory of all repositories you have.
If you are only using ntserver protocol it needs only contain a list of the
system users who are authorized to also use the CVS service. The user connecting
on the pipe is validated against this list of valid users and if he existst here
the process continues. CVSNT then switches clothes and does its work as this
user.
So you myst create the passwd file and place it in CVSROOT. This has to be done
manually on the server itself.

3. CVSROOT specification in WinCvs
Since you are using WinCvs version 1.2 you must type in the complete string
as in your example (:ntserver:bgl:c:/cvs). In later versions of WinCvs 1.3
this has changed so that the protocol part is not needed or accepted.

/Bo

Subject: [Cvsnt] ntserver

Hi,

I have set up cvsnt on a windows2000 machine
and I am trying to login from a client machine
running winNT 4 and wincvs 1.2 using the
ntserver protocol.

When I set the preferences as so:

ROOT
:ntserver:bg1:c:/cvs

Authentication:
ntserver

I get the error message:
set the password settings in preferences !?!
Not sure what that means, I thought I had by
setting the authentication to ntserver.

If I try and import a module I get a pipe 6 error
which I understand is due to a need for a list of
user names in a password file in the CVSROOT.
I have created a root repository using the control
panel but there is no passwd file there what exactly
do I need to do here?
