Their sserver was based on the old patches by corey minyard.  The cvsnt 
compatibility was always a hack.... made sense 5 years ago when those 
patches were still current (and available, which they aren't any more). 
  It was kinda inevitable that they'd break eventually.

The only people who ever used that sserver version were freepository... 
it'd be easier for them to upgrade their end TBH.

It changes periodically, usually after I find a way to increase 
security... I can't say what impact any of that might have had on 
freepository.
