It won't though - it's still looking in the registry to see if the 
protocol is installed.

If a frontend wants a local client then it has the -L and -C options to 
force it as is used on some unix frontends already (albeit undocumented 
on Win32, and it's doubtful whether -C has much use on that platform).

To do such a thing on a server would simply break it.
