taginfo and commmit_email have very different structures... can you give 
an example of something that fails in taginfo?

You can't have upward relative paths in the info files - it should be 
checking for this (actually it is - sounds like the check isn't working 
in your case?)

Also use forward slashes for compatibility... the email parser doesn't 
treat backslashes specially yet but probably will in the future.
