Auscott
Pool Management System
Overview
The
Pool Management System provides Auscott with a repository
for all information on their cotton trading business, and
produces detailed daily financial position statements .
This
legacy Uniface application was implemented a number of years
ago using Uniface Six and Solid.
Auscott
is now implementing business automation practices on a large
scale using Oracle Applications, and needed to migrate their
Uniface system to an Oracle Database.
Responsibilities
Consultant:
- Develop
a migration plan and technical requirements to make the
Pool Management System available on the Oracle Database.
- Install
Polyserver and SQL*Net for data access.
- Migrate
the Uniface Six application to Uniface Seven, implementing
patches to maintain existing functionality.
- Find
and upgrade embedded SQL in the Uniface source code from
SOLID to Oracle (e.g.: date formats, lowercase() etc.).
- Install
databases with appropriate security models.
- Install
appropriate Oracle patches.
- Convert
existing data from Solid to Oracle.
- Document
Polyserver installation process.
- Report
on Year 2000 compliance of the Pool Management System,
Uniface and Oracle.
- Coordinate
and transfer Oracle expertise as required in the transition
period.
Support:
- Provide
ongoing documentation and support to assist with unforeseen
implications of the upgrade, as they arise.
- Provide
additional functionality to the application on an ad-hoc
basis.
- Document
system configuration.
Environment
Uniface
application running on Windows 95 and NT workstations accessing
a centralised Oracle database (on NT), and using SQL*Net
and Polyserver as network transports.
