Uniface is built on the "3 schema architecture", and
you build applications around them. Now that many other business
tools are using this same approach, the worldwide development community
has defined a standard for how this should be represented. It is
called XML.
XML is a markup language that is standardised by the World Wide
Web Consortium. Whilst it is very flexible, and allows you to develop
your won markup language, it is best to use a defined one, like
the XML-DATA specification that the UD7/XML-DATA driver uses.
This allows any data stored by Uniface using the UD7/XML-DATA driver
to be displayed and formatted by Microsoft Internet Explorer 5,
DocZilla and XML enabled browsers.
XML-DATA will eventually replace undefined formats like CSV (Comma
separated files), because it is self descriptive. The file contains
all of the 'meta information' to descibe itself.
